ANA CONVENTION: ANA NATIONAL SET TO HOLD STRATEGIC MEETING WITH ANA LAGOS LOC
IN LAGOS, INSPECT FACILITIES AND PROMISES TO REVIEW THE CONVENTION FEE.
All is now set for a
strategic meeting between the national executive committee of the Association
of Nigerian Authors (ANA) under the national leadership of Mallam Denja
Abdulahi and the Convention’s Local Organizing Committee members of ANA Lagos
headed by Mr. Akin Adeoya this weekend.
It would be recalled
that the Lagos Chapter of ANA under the Chairmanship of Mr. Yemi Adebiyi bidded
for the hosting of 2018 ANA Convention in Makurdi during the 36th ANA
International Convention which was hosted by His Excellency Dr. Samuel Ortom of
Benue State.
In his acceptance
speech during the inauguration of Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the
Convention, Mr. Yemi Adebiyi hinted that it was a privilege for the Centre of
Excellence to be given due consideration after being denied before now to host
the convention and further promised writers to expect the best convention from
Lagos.
Some of the issues that will be discussed in the meeting will be bordering around assessing the preparations of Lagos State Chapter of ANA to host the convention, inspection of venues and facilities, the possibility of reduction in the hitherto released Convention fee, scheduling and arranging of activities for the Convention etc.
The National President of ANA, Mallam Denja Abdulahi on his own part has promised to review the earlier released Convention fee. According to a message shared on WhatsApp page “We are meeting with ANA Lagos this week and after the meeting we will come out with measures that may answer some of the outcries about the fees proposed for this coming Convention. I assured you that interest of the members and the future of the Association will prevail, backed by economic realities of the time as it affects the individuals and the Association as a body”.
Denja finally urged all
financial members of ANA to pay their annual dues and other fees related to the
convention promptly to allow for early and adequate preparations and abide by
the Constitution of the Association. He assured members that his leadership has
delivered hitch- free and very successful conventions in Abuja and Makurdi in
the last two years and that the Lagos convention will be top of the range. He
implored members to cooperate with the LOC and the National Executive Council
in some of the forward-looking innovations that may be introduced in delivering
a mega-convention in the megacity of Lagos.
