ANA Lagos Hosts Oba Of Lagos, Tinubu, Others At Patrons’ Night

ANA Lagos Hosts Oba Of Lagos, Tinubu, Others At Patrons’ Night
By Yemi Adebisi- August 26, 2018

As part of its effort to deliver one of the best conventions to world writers, the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of this year’s convention of Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) has concluded arrangement to host its patrons and matrons in a grand event at the Freedom Park, Old Prisons Ground, near the Lagos Island General Hospital, Broad Street, Lagos.
Tagged: ‘An Evening with ANA Patrons,’ the event which was initially slated for Sunday, 26th August, has been rescheduled for Sunday, 9th of September, 2018 due to the closure of the Third Mainland Bridge from August 23 to 27, for planned repairs at latter date.
The occasion, billed to feature investiture of ANA, Lagos Branch’s patrons and matrons, among other scintillating events has Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Babatunde Osuolale Akiolu I as Grand Royal Patron, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, wife of the former Governor of Lagos State and national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as matron, while Mrs. Maureen Bakare, former Director General of Lagos State Service Commission is the mother of the day.
Others patrons are Professor Adigun Olanrewaju Fagbohun, Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, Lagos; Professor  Adebayo Williams, a former lecturer in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State; Francesca Emmanuel, the first Nigerian female permanent secretary, among others.
According to Mr. Yemi Adebiyi, the Chairman of ANA, Lagos Branch, “we had all the plans in place to do the investiture of our patrons and matrons but, we had to listen to voice of reason and postpone the date for two weeks.
“This is to safe our patrons and matrons and guests who are there giving their support to ANA, Lagos, from the stress of traffic congestion that the closure of the third mainland bridge may cause them.
“On behalf of the entire members of ANA, Lagos, I humbly and sincerely apologise for the inconvenience that the postponement of ‘an Evening with ANA Patrons’ might have caused our numerous patrons and invited dignitaries. It is intended for the best interest of all concerned,” pleaded Adebiyi.
He added also that, the entire membership of his association, including at the national level, appreciate the support of individuals and corporate organisations for their support toward a successful 37th International Convention of ANA slated to be held at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja Lagos from 26th to 28th of October, 2018.
His words: “We have to appreciate the likes of Oba Rilwan Akiolu Osuolale, Olowo Eko as he is popularly called. He has been a great moral booster to us. He is indeed a great royal father who has promised to continue to give support to ANA and international convention.
“Another person is the Yeye Asiwaju of Lagos, Senator Oluremi Tinubu who has also accepted to be a pillar of support to the cause of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA). She is an amazing personality and leader. There are several others, including corporate organisations and government of Lagos State that we look up to for their support,” he enthused.

ANA National Exco, LOC Meet On 2018 Convention Today

ANA National Exco, LOC Meet On 2018 Convention Today

By Yemi Adebisi- August 26, 2018

To ensure that writers have a seamless deliberation at the proposed 37th international convention of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), the national executive led by its president, Mallam Denja Abdullahi will be having an appraisal meeting with members of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) in Lagos today.

Lagos won the hosting right of the annual convention in 2017 at Makurdi, Benue State and writers across the world will converge at Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja Lagos from October 26 to 28 to witness the occasion.

Today’s meeting, according to a communiqué signed by the chairman, LOC, Akin Adeoya will focus on general assessment of the activities of the planning committee, inspection of venues and facilities, possibility of reduction of convention fee, review of convention activities among others.

Chairman, Lagos State chapter of ANA, Mr. Yemi Adebiyi has assured writers to expect the best moment from this convention even as LOC members have been holding meetings and paying courtesy visits to philanthropists, government and organisations for months to add veritable values to the programme.

In his acceptance speech during the inauguration of LOC for the Convention, Adebiyi hinted that it was a privilege for the Centre of Excellence to be given due consideration after being denied before now to host the convention.

To allay the fear of writers who have been reacting against alleged high convention fee, Abdullahi said his team will look into how to reduce the fee as requested during their deliberation.

“We are meeting with ANA Lagos this week and after the meeting we will come out with measures that may answer some of the outcries about the fees proposed for this coming Convention. I assured you that interest of the members and the future of the Association will prevail, backed by economic realities of the time as it affects the individuals and the Association as a body.”

He also urged all financial members to pay their annual dues and other fees related to the convention promptly to allow early and adequate preparation. He assured members that his leadership has delivered hitch- free and successful conventions in Abuja and Makurdi in the last two years and that the Lagos convention will be top of the range.

Abdullahi, who recently emerged as one of the 11 longlisted authors for the NLNG sponsored Nigeria Prize for Literature (NPL) with his book, The King’s Grey Hair, implored members to cooperate with the LOC and the National Executive Council in some of the forward-looking innovations that may be introduced in delivering a mega-convention in the megacity of Lagos.
