ANA MOURNS THE PASSING OF JUSTICE MUSTAPHA AKANBI( RTD)

The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) on Saturday joined other Nigerians to mourn the death of the pioneer Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and a former President of the Nigerian Court of Appeal, Justice Muhammad Mustapha Adebayo Akanbi.

This was contained in a condolence message issued and signed by the National President of ANA, Mallam Denja Abdulahi on Saturday in Abuja.

ANA National President, Mallam Denja Abdulahi described the death of Justice Mustapha Akanbi as shocking and a monumental loss to Kwara state, the Nigerian judiciary and the nation.

According to the release “We in ANA received with sadness and a deep feeling of great national loss, the news of the passing away of our Patron, the Founder of Knowledge Platform and the Mustapha Akanbi Foundation which had regularly and freely hosted and accommodated many of our literary activities since the year 2012 .The former President, of the Nigerian Court of Appeal and the Pioneer Chairman of ICPC, Justice Mustapha Akanbi”. 

Justice Mustapha Akanbi, whose Son Dr. Usman Akanbi was a former Chairman of Kwara ANA was described as “a principled, dogged and unrelenting legal luminary. Fully committed to any legal and educational course he believed in.

ANA President recalled that just recently in April 2018 the late Justice Akanbi graced the national capacity building workshop held by ANA at the knowledge platform in Ilorin where he advised the Association and blessed its activities. On a final note, Denja Abdulahi said that Justice Mustapha Akanbi’s death at this point in the re-building of our nation towards the paths of integrity and accountability will be missed by all. This is because his contributions, not only to the development of the Kwara state, but to the legal and political advancement of our country have been enormous. His type is rare, his personal sacrifices and selfless services to the poor and his people uncommon. He deserves everything that the Federal Government and the Kwara State government can do to give him a befitting honour to immortalize his name as a great legal luminary and scholar.

Denja Abdullahi prayed to Allah to give his family the fortitude to bear the loss and also extended his heartfelt condolences to Mallam Yusuf Ali (SAN) and all Kwara ANA members.

The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) Osun State chapter has set aside Tuesday 29^th of May, 2018, to host Dr. Femi Ademiluyi as a guest writer for the month of May. 

Dr. Femi Ademiluyi, a former National Secretary of ANA and who is also the author of the popular book, The New Man. A former Deputy Rector of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree. 

He is also the pioneer chairman of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Osun State Chapter.

According to ANA Osun Chairman and Secretary, Mr. Muriola Awosemo and Mr. Bada Yusuf, the event will take place at the NUJ Press Center, Osogbo by 2:00PM prompt.

The Local Organising Committee of the 37th international convention of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) has been putting heads together since its inauguration early this month, to give a befitting convention to Nigerian writers.

The convention, which is billed to hold in Lagos between October 25 and October 28, 2018, will be hosted by Lagos chapter of ANA. The theme of the convention is ‘Literature Mega Cities and Mega Narratives.

Speaking during a meeting with other members of the committee, held at Prince Anthony Hotel, Anthony Village, Lagos on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, Akin Adeoya, chairman of the LOC commended the members for their transparency and willingness to put in all their resources to ensure that the annual event is a grandeur.

Adeoya, who insisted that writers, home and abroad, expected at the convention would live to remember their experience, also charged the members for sound commitment and cooperation.

From all indications, plans are on top gear to bring in varieties of pre-events that would equally be beneficial to the writers apart from the main events of the convention that have been exclusively packaged and nurtured around the theme.

Author of ‘Pastors’ Prostitute,’ Yemi Adebiyi, chairman, ANA Lagos, and his vice, Babatunde Ayo-Vaughan expressed their supports and commitments towards the realisation of the set goals of the committee, advising members not to relent their efforts.

Other members at the said meeting include Monday Edet (LOC’s Secretary); Oye Feyi-Abiodun (LOC’s PRO); Chike Ofili (former Lagos ANA chairman); Abigail Ohiero; Margaret Irhabor; Linda Edem Davies; Akeem Lasisi; Olusola Adigun; Olayinka Kadiri and Yemi Adebisi.

The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), in collaboration with Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ikwo (FUNAI), Ebonyi State will hold an international conference and creative workshop at the university hall, between June 18 and 19, with the theme: Expanding Frontiers: Nigeria’s Creative Writing in the 21st Century.

In a communiqué signed by Prof. G.M.T. Emezue, Dean, Faculty of Humanities, FUNAI and Ofonime Inyang, ANA General Secretary, the conference will provide an enabling environment for scholars to reassess the evolutionary trend in Nigerian literature.

“The twenty-first century in Nigeria has witnessed an avalanche of creative writing in all the genres of literature and beyond. More than ever before, this period has shown that creative writing and critical practices offer greater possibilities for social re-engineering and meaningful mediation in public spaces. This expansion is witnessed in the steady growth of the list of names of Nigerians associated with national and international acclaim.

“The ‘Expanding Frontiers’ conference provides scholars the opportunity to articulate as well as interrogate these new trends and the stylistic evolutions of Nigerian literature in the 21st century,” it reads partly.

Among other things, the conference tends to answer such questions as: In what ways do the thematic preoccupations of the new literatures of the 21st century (both in the indigenous and foreign languages) differ from the previous generations of creative writing in Nigeria or Africa?

In what ways do the styles and methodologies of Nigeria’s literatures of the 21st century differ from literary practices of the past?

How have the new technologies and new media affected the practices, reception and disseminations of literary practices in Nigeria and beyond?

Interested contributors have been urged to register and submit abstracts (which may be comparative in approach) of 250 to 300 words to the conference portal – www.ana-funai.megaconferences.com. 

Workshop participants are also expected to register online at the same website. Deadline for submission of abstract and early bird registration is May 2018.

The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) in collaboration with the Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ikwo (FUNAI) Ebonyi State, will be holding an international conference and creative workshops for artists.

Themed ‘Expanding the Frontiers: Nigeria’s Creative Writing in the 21st Century’, the event will be taking place from June 18 to 19 2018 at FUNAI.  

The conference is aimed at providing scholars with the opportunity to articulate as well as interrogate new trends in creative writing.

Four workshops on poetry, prose, drama, drawing, painting, and tie and dye, shall hold simultaneously during the conference.

Registration fee for the conference is N15,000 for those who do so early and N20,000 at the venue, while workshop fee is N5,000 (early) and N10,000 (late). Deadline for registration is May 2018.
