STOP ACTING, PARADING YOURSELVES AS ANA’S SPOKESMEN, GROUP WARNS SULAIMAN BANMA AND DADA KOREDE

The immediate past National Publicity Secretary (South) of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Wole Adedoyin who is also a member of the Bring Back ANA Movement has warned the duo of Mallam Sulaiman Banma and Mr. Dada Korede Sola to stop parading themselves as spokesmen of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), insisting that ANA is yet to get a new national EXCO.

According to Wole Adedoyin “I am surprised that Mallam Sulaiman Banma, the immediate past Chairman of Niger ANA whose tenure BM Dzukogi once described as empty and demoted, and Mr. Dada Korede Sola who did not record any meaningful achievement while he was acting as ANA Ogun Chairman are acting and parading themselves as ANA Spokesmen. The duo of Mallam Sulaiman Banma and Mr. Dada Korede Sola could not speak for the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) or use its logo and franchise without the authority and permission of the members of the incorporated trustees of the Association.

Wole Adedoyin recalled the release of the Prof. Jerry Agada-led committee earlier mandated by the ANA Advisory Council and the board of trustees to conduct an Emergency General Meeting and elections of a valid new national executive council which was to hold in Makurdi on the 28th of March 2020 before it was postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic ravaging the world. In the committee's release dated 26th March 2020 postponing the EGM / elections and signed by its Chairman, it was stated thus: " the committee wishes to remind all members, friends , associates and partners of ANA that for now, the Association has no elected executive committee until such a time when the election being postponed would have been conducted and those elected duly sworn in . Therefore, anyone who parades him/ herself as an elected national official of ANA should be ignored."

 “The duo of Mallam Sulaiman Banma and Mr. Dada Korede Sola are mainly card carrying members of ANA in both Niger and Ogun states respectively, therefore, any person acting or parading himself as spokesman of ANA out of the two is an impostor and such a person should be arrested for impersonation. I urge the public and members of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) to disregard any publication or press statement made by any of them.”

Wole Adedoyin finally urged all media houses to stop giving the duo of Mallam Sulaiman Banma and Mr. Dada Korede Sola any media support or assistance.

In the face of global challenges, and especially the raging COVID-19 pandemic we recognize and celebrate today being 2020 World Book day. Books have offered our Nation so great opportunity with its positive impact being felt in all ramifications from the development of literacy to growth in education, contribution to the Nation’s GDP, instilling peace into mankind, personal development, engaging all and sundry even at a solitary time such as this.

Books have enabled us to learn how to develop our skills and hone it further, relate with one another peaceably as well as open our mind to converting initiative into creativity and inventions that make the world a better place to live.

Moreso, knowledge, and skills in all sectors such as education, health, environment, water, energy, industry, gender equality, peace and security, and reviving the economy are paramount at this moment; which can only be achieved with the collective influence of the book industry.

Today, we, the book industry players in Nigeria are not just celebrating books; our excitement is embedded in the fact that we are great contributors to ensuring the availability of books to the masses.

The Author writes and prepares the manuscripts, the manuscripts get edited, illustration done and packaged by publishers to make a book which in turn is converted to readable physical and electronic formats for onward availability to end-users through the booksellers and get the book shelved for easy access and archiving. It is indeed a great time to celebrate everything about books not leaving out the brains behind its production and availability.

How do we thank Authors, Publishers, Illustrators, Printers, Booksellers and Librarians tirelessly working together to ensure books reach the readers or how else do we appreciate those who ensured the copyright of those books are well protected to enable industry investors to have their Return On Investment.

It is obvious that in whatever form the book comes, it radiates light into the darkest part that is seemingly incomprehensible. Many thanks to lovers of books who after all, encourages its further production by purchasing and improving their lives.

Beyond books, we celebrate the readers who have denied all temptations to get swayed away by the dying reading culture.

At a time like this, we care for the safety of all, book lovers and readers in Nigeria and beyond as we urge you to please stay home and stay safe reading books. We shall soon get over the current COVID-19 pandemic. If there’s a way to make the most of the moment, then it is by studying and reading books. By extension, parents have in extempore now turn official educator with integrated engagement so guide the children and their wards through books.

Our industry keeps making frantic efforts to keep abreast of the current book demands, exploring every possible means to further meet the demands of book readers in concordant with the UN Sustainable Development Goal 4, as it concerns inclusive and equitable quality education that promotes lifelong learning opportunities for all.

The current pandemic has dealt a huge blow on the industry and we need Government’s support to get over the negative impact on our activities as we gasp for oxygen to survive. On this note, we urge the Government to consider the book industry in its economic response strategies.

Bring Back ANA Movement has warned members of the public, corporate organizations, eminent politicians, ANA Members and chapters across the nooks and crannies of the country to be cautious of a deviant, unelected and unconstitutional "ANA National EXCO "led by one Barr. Ahmed Maiwada who has been using the name of ANA to engage in all sort of unauthorized and illegal activities that would drag the name of ANA in the mud.

Wole Adedoyin, a member of the Movement who is also the immediate past National Publicity Secretary (South) of ANA gave the warning on Tuesday, 7th of April, 2020.

It would be recalled that the ANA Board of Trustees on the 13th of March 2020 viewed with dismay the act of indiscipline of a deviant group led by Barr. Ahmed Maiwada which purportedly elected what it called a 'new ANA Executive' at Abuja on Saturday, March 7, 2020.

In a release signed by Prof. Ernest N. Emenyonu, PhD on behalf of ANA Board of Trustees described the Barr. Maiwada led group’s action as outrageous and unconstitutional and therefore warned all responsible members of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) to ignore them and their activities.

The release further stated that "Any action by any member/s of ANA intended to compromise the integrity and dignity of ANA in contravention of the vision of the 'founding fathers' and/ or in violation of the Constitution of ANA, as evident in the charade and indiscipline displayed by the deviant group at Abuja in the purported meeting and election on Saturday March 7, 2020 shall attract appropriate severe disciplinary action including expulsion from the Association. "

This set of of persons who are attempting to fraudulently impose themselves as leaders of the Association without being elected as provisioned in the ANA constitution are now parading themselves " new ANA National EXCO" and have been sending letters and proposals to corporate organizations, eminent politicians and individuals requesting for donations for their selfish utilization in the name of ANA.

This latest revelation was contained in a press statement titled “30 Days in Office and immediate Task Ahead” issued and signed this morning by one Akogun Tai Oguntayo who has been illegally parading himself as the National Secretary of ANA.

Wole Adedoyin said corporate organizations, government bodies at all levels, the media and partners of ANA and KMVL , ANA Abuja Land developer, should be wary of these disgruntled members as they have embarked on using ANA’s name to pursue their selfish agenda and do not have the authorization or validation of the ANA congress to do anything in ANA's name . He further explained that the warning became necessary following reports that this disgruntled and self appointed ANA National EXCO have been visiting State Governments, Corporate organizations and politicians in attempts to collect money from them under the pretext of financing the activities of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA).

Adedoyin advised ANA Board of Trustees , Advisory Board , Past Presidents, well-meaning members of ANA to rise against the perfidy of this desperate group who seem determined to steal the mandate of ANA and arrogate to themselves the collective patrimony of the Association .

Adedoyin, finally urged members of the public, governments, corporat­e organizations to abstain and stop dealing with this group who codenamed themselves “New ANA National EXCO” under her illegal and self-appointed President, Barr. Ahmed Maiwada and warned that whosoever transacts any business with them do so at his or her own risk.

THE ANA SITUATION: A DIRECTIVE FROM THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES TO ANA ADVISORY COUNCIL, PROF JERRY AGADA COMMITTEE AND ALL ANA MEMBERS.

Dear All,

The ANA Board of Trustees has viewed with dismay the act of indiscipline of a deviant group which purportedly elected what it called a 'new ANA Executive' at Abuja on Saturday, March 7, 2020.  This unconstitutional action is outrageous and must be ignored by all responsible members of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA). The Board of Trustees is aware of the need for ANA to have a duly elected EXCO after the botched election at the Enugu Convention in October/November 2019. The Board of Trustees commends  the  ANA Advisory Council for its efforts towards a resolution of the impasse following the path of  the ANA Constitution, by the establishment of the Prof. Jerry Agada Committee to organize and conduct the election of the next ANA EXCO to direct the affairs of the Association.

I write, therefore, on behalf of the Board of Trustees to state and direct as follows:

• The Board of Trustees fully endorses the ANA meeting  scheduled for March 28, 2020 in Makurdi for the purpose of  duly electing a new EXCO to direct the affairs of ANA. 
• The Professor Jerry Agada Committee is mandated to proceed with the Makurdi 28, 2020 Emergency General Meeting  for the purpose of conducting the election of a new ANA EXCO.
•  The ANA EXCO elected in Makurdi shall take over from the last EXCO headed by Denja Abdulahi.
• All the participants in the unconstitutional act in the purported ANA election at Abuja are hereby barred forthwith  from participating in any ANA activities and events till further notice.
• All the participants in the unconstitutional act in the purported ANA election at Abuja are barred from nominating anybody  or being nominated themselves for any office at the Makurdi March 28, 2020 elections. 
• The watchword for the new ANA EXCO must be 'accountability' at any point in time to the ANA membership and ANA official hierarchy in the execution of their official duties and responsibilities. 
• The integrity and dignity of ANA as envisioned by its 'founding fathers' must be respected at all times by all members of the Association.
• Any action by any member/s of ANA intended to compromise the integrity and dignity of ANA in contravention of the vision of the 'founding fathers' and/ or in violation of the Constitution of ANA, as evident in the charade and indiscipline displayed by the deviant group at Abuja in the purported meeting and election on Saturday March 7, 2020 shall attract appropriate severe disciplinary action including expulsion from the Association.
